PURPOSE: We set out to determine the accommodative effects of Atropine on the visual system. METHODS: A prospective study was done on a normal eye in a 31-year-old cooperative adult. PURPOSE: Near point of convergence (NPC) and near point of accommodation (NPA) were evaluated before and after photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) in normal myopic eyes. Before there was photography to record physical abnormalities of living creatures, there was art and artists who did the recording in their works. Fortunately, many such recordings have been preserved, usually in museums. They provide the graphic evidence of the same medical problems which our ancestors suffered and survived but which we still do but now understand and can ameliorate better. Cyclovertical muscle palsies are very common. We propose rules that help clinicians and resident physicians diagnose easily the affected muscle. We simplified evaluation of the deviation by measuring it only in the cardinal directions of gaze and omit the oblique fields of gaze. A female child with morning glory disc anomaly (MGDA) in two eyes is described in this report. The patient had no systemic abnormalities. Magnetic resonance imaging of the cranium, sella and orbits revealed an asymmetry of the right and left optic nerve sheath complexes. The presence of asymmetric optic nerve sheath complexes in patients with bilateral MGDA has not been previously reported.
