BACKGROUND: South Asian countries face the colossal challenge of tackling the massive burden of diabetes and other endocrine disorders. These patients grossly outnumber the specialists trained to deal with these conditions. A trained cadre of diabetes specialist nurses (DSN) and endocrine specialist nurses (ESN) might help bridge this gap.
