We describe a rare case of a severe gastric ulcer of a 66-year-old immunocompetent man who was associated with primary Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection and temporarily misdiagnosed with gastric lymphoma. A contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT-scan) of the thorax, abdomen and pelvis followed by EUS revealed a neoplastic infiltrative-ulcerative semicircumferentialgastric mass and a 1 cm large satellite adenopathy, being classified as T3N1M0 gastric neoplasia. The histological analysis of the ¾ distal stomach and lymph node sthat were resected contradicted the initial biopsy report, suggesting EBV gastric ulcer, etiology confirmed by the in situ hybridization technique...

This report describes a case of fetal supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) diagnosed at 12 weeks of gestation in a pregnant woman with diabetes mellitus. Transplacental digoxin therapy administered orally to the mother was unsuccessful. Subsequently, sotalol was added to digoxin to achieve fetal heart rate (HR) control and the conversion to sinus rhythm was achieved. The fetal HR remained stable until term, and a healthy male baby was born. The newborn electrocardiogram showed sinus rhythm with normal PR and QTc intervals...

In-stent plaque protrusion (ISP) is a predictor for ischemic complications in carotid artery stenting (CAS). Because its mobility would further increase the distal embolization risk, the intraprocedural detection of mobility is important but has not yet been reported. We present an 87-year-old male with symptomatic right carotid artery stenosis who underwent CAS. Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) after stent deployment revealed a small ISP, and simultaneous extravascular carotid duplex disclosed its mobility...

Airway management is one of the most important skills in everyday practice of anesthesia. Improper airway management might contribute to significant morbidity and mortality. In some patients, clinical parameters do not anticipate all difficulties related to airway management. Ultrasonography (US) might confer a potential screening tool for difficult airway. Suprahyoid and infrahyoid US measurements have been investigated for difficult airway prediction in anesthesiology. The most extensively investigated parameter was the anterior neck soft tissue thickness measured at different levels: anterior to the hyoid bone, epiglottis and vocal cords commissure...

Uterine leiomyomas are common benign uterine tumors but by contrast, their acute complications are very rare. We present an unusual case of 38-year-old woman that came to the emergency department with acute abdominal pain. The ultrasound revealed hemoperitoneum, a uterus with two intramural fibroids and a tender inhomogeneous pelvic mass that seems to connect with the uterus. Computer tomographic (CT) examination raised the suspicion of a degenerated fibroid and hemoperitoneum. Emergency laparotomy was performed: the hemoperitoneum was determined by a degenerated fundal subserosalfibroid...

Despite the use of reperfusion therapies in the last decades, acute myocardial infarction further remains one of the most frequent causes of mortality. This is mainly caused by changes in the ventricular architecture leading to ventricular remodeling, followed by progressive development of heart failure. Transthoracic echocardiography is a non-invasive instrument which can provide information about the extent of the ischemic process and its consequences but can also predict the outcomes after myocardial infarction...

We present the case of a 60-year-old male patient, with refractory ulcers in the groin. Ultrasoundand CT showed a large vascularized tumor of the kidney with cystic parts and inhomogeneous dynamic behaviour. Histology demonstrated Pyoderma gangrenosum (ulcer) and well differentiated adenocarcinoma (kidney). Pyoderma gangrenosum appears as paraneoplastic manifestation in about 7% of cases, especially in lymphomas and tumors involving the digestive tract.Particularities of the case consisted in the accidental discovery of the renal tumor, in spite of the lack of urinary syndromes...

We reported a 43-year-old man with right-foot numbness under the tentative diagnosis of tarsal tunnel syndrome. The initial ultrasound examination did not identify any remarkable findings at the level of the medial malleolus. Owing to the failure of conservative treatments, he was referred for US-guided injection of the tibial nerve. When tracking the entire course of the nerve, a ganglion cyst was observed on top of the tibial nerve, in proximity to the medial and lateral plantar branches. The symptom disappeared after surgical excision...
