In this study, we aim to investigate the effect of industrial Olea europaea L. leaf extract (OLE) against bleomycin (BLM)-induced pulmonary fibrosis (PF) in rats. Male Wistar rats were treated with a single intratracheal injection of BLM (4 mg/kg) and a daily intraperitoneal injection of OLE (10, 20, and 40 mg/kg) for 4 weeks. Results of HPLC and LC-MS analysis revealed a large amount of oleuropein (15.43%/DW) in OLE. BLM induced apparent damage of lung architecture with condensed collagen bundles, increased lipid peroxidation which has been deduced from malondialdehyde (MDA) levels: (...

Industrial waste still present an environmental danger for the nature and survival of all living beings. Among these toxic products, the focus has been on liquid effluents from the baker's yeast industry that cause real environmental problems mainly due to their pollutant load and the release of unpleasant odors. In order to minimize these hazards and to take advantage of these wastes for the sake of our environment, the present work consists on valorizing effluents from the baker's yeast industry on barley ( Hordeum vulgare ) and pea ( Pisum sativum ), two important agricultural products of Tunisian north-west...

Nanoparticles have shown promising potential for efficient drug delivery, circumventing biological interferences like immunological and renal clearance and mechanical and enzymatic destruction. However, a handful of research papers have questioned the biomedical use of metal-based nanoparticles like cadmium telluride quantum dots (CdTe-QDs) for their cytotoxic, genotoxic, and carcinogenic potential. Herein, we examined the effects of CdTe-QD NPs on gene expression profile of hepatocellular carcinoma (Huh-7) cell line...

Although scutellarin has been extensively investigated, its effects on glioma are unclear. This study intended to reveal this regulation and the underlying mechanisms. The U251, M059K, and SF-295 cell lines were treated with gradient concentrations of scutellarin and then IC50 was calculated. SF-295 cells selected for subsequent procedures were treated with four concentrations of scutellarin. Then, proliferation, apoptosis, and cell cycle, as well as the protein and mRNA expression of significantly differentially expressed genes identified by next-generation sequencing (NGS), were examined...

Medicinal plants have been extensively exploited for their immense pharmacological and immune-supporting potential. Fruit of Citrullus colocynthis has several active secondary metabolites such as phenolics, flavonoids, and essential oils that are used in traditional medicines as antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial agents. In this study, phytoconstituents in organic fractions ( n -hexane, chloroform, and ethyl acetate) of the methanolic extract of C. colocynthis were analyzed and identified by FT-IR, HPLC, and GC-MS analysis...

During radiotherapy, immune-modulatory effects of radiation doses should be taken into consideration, not only the anti-tumor radiation effects. Thus, our study aimed to study how γ-radiation modulates immune response in comparison to common immune-suppressive/stimulant agents. Animals were divided into two groups. Category A received Echinacea purpura extract (EP) or irradiated at low radiation doses 0, .25 or .5 Gray (Gy), whereas Category B received cyclophosphamide (CP) or irradiated at high radiation doses 1, 2, or 5 Gy...

Previous research on "healing-with-intent" has reasonably demonstrated the validity of the phenomenon at least when a human healer is present and involved. However, in order for healing to be adopted into more conventional therapies, it must be able to be made scalable. The present study tests the effects of a scalable recording of the Bengston Healing Method on 3 cancer models. BalbC mice engrafted with 4T1 breast cancer cells, C57BL mice with melanoma B16 cells, and C3H mice with bladder MBT-2 wells were exposed to a recording of healing intent for 4 hours/day for approximately 1 month...

Arbutus unedo and Crataegus monogyna are widely distributed throughout the Mediterranean basin and commonly used in folk medicine against a wide range of diseases. Therefore, the present study has been designed to evaluate the anti-obesity potential of two aqueous extracts of the fruits of A. unedo (AUAE) and C. monogyna (CMAE). Male Wistar rats were supplied with a standard diet (SD), high-fat diet (HFD), HFD with the two separated extracts at the same dose (300 mg/kg, BW, p. o.), or HFD with atorvastatin-(ATOR) (2...

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a chronic and progressive respiratory disease whose diagnosis and physiopathogenesis are still poorly understood and for which, until recently, there were no effective treatments. Over the past few decades, many studies have demonstrated that marine macroalgae such as red seaweeds are potential alternative sources of useful bioactive compounds possessing various physiological and biological activities. The present study was aimed to investigate the effect of Corallina officinalis aqueous extract (COAE) against bleomycin (BLM)-induced lung fibrosis in rat...

PURPOSE: The present study investigates the new approach of rosuvastatin (RUV) administration as a drug for the management of spleen injury induced by gamma irradiation. MAIN METHODS: Forty rats were used and divided equally into 4 groups: control group, irradiated group, IRR + rosuvastatin group (10 mg/Kg b. wt), and IRR + rosuvastatin group (20 mg/kg b. wt) for 7 days orally. RESULTS: The possible curative effect can be illustrated via the improvement of hematopoietic cell count (Hb, RBCs, and WBCs) and oxidative stress markers (MDA and GST) in addition to biochemical parameters including [heme oxigenase-1 (HO-1), nuclear erythroid 2-related factor (Nrf2), NOD-, LRR- and pyrin domain- containing protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome] and immune assay of nuclear factor kappa beta (NF-kB P65) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS)...

The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is an important cellular organelle, and ER dysfunction has an important impact on a variety of biological processes. In this study, we explored the role of ER stress in cervical cancer by establishing a prognostic model related to ER stress. This study included 309 samples from the TCGA database and 15 pairs of RNA sequencing data before and after radiotherapy. ER stress characteristics were obtained by the LASSO regression model. The prognostic value of risk characteristics was analyzed by Cox regression, Kaplan‒Meier, and ROC curves...

Radon exposure is significantly associated with lung cancer. Radon concentration is currently reduced mainly by physical methods, but there is a lack of protective drugs or biochemical reagents for radon damage. This study aimed to explore the protective effect of polydatin (PD) on the radon-exposed injury. The results showed that PD can significantly reduce ROS level, raise SOD activity, weaken the migration ability, increase E-cad, and decrease mesenchymal cell surface markers (FN1, Vimentin, N-cad, α-SMA, and Snail) in radon-exposed epithelial cells...
