The activity of carvacrol was evaluated in R. microplus female ticks by estimating the mean lethal concentration (LC50 ) and the acaricidal efficacy. Ticks were subjected to the Adult Immersion Test (AIT) to calculate LC50 . From this value, the AIT was performed again at the concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% of the LC50 . Two control groups were established: one treated with distilled water and one with the solvent (ethanol 50%). The following parameters were evaluated: female weight before oviposition, egg mass weight, pre-oviposition and incubation period, hatching percentage, egg production index, fecundity rate, estimated reproduction, reduction in oviposition and hatching, and product efficacy...

Agareratum fastigiatum is a Brazilian medicinal plant used as anti-inflammaroty and for wound healing by the folk medicine. In vitro and in vivo studies involving A. fastigiatum essential oil (EOAF) showed indications of anti-inflammatory activity, however, its effect on membrane integrins involved on cell migration is still unclear. Hence, it was evaluated in the present study the effect of EOAF on CD18 frequency on human lymphocytes. By using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry it was identified 9 compounds on EOAF: α-pinene; β-pinene; β-myrcene; d-limonene; β-ocimene; sesquiterpenes; α-copaene; 4,8-β-epóxi-caryophyllene; germacrene and bicyclogermacrene...

Rumex lunaria L. is a Canarian medicinal plant, belonging to Polygonaceae. The potential antidiabetic activity of the methanolic extract of the leaves was investigated. For this purpose, the inhibition of α-glucosidase and albumin glycation by the extract was studied. Further, the anti-radical activity and the phytochemical composition were detected. The reduction of α-glucosidase activity was significant from 3 µg/mL, while the BSA glycation inhibition started from 100 µg/mL. Moreover, the extract exhibited a significant free-radical scavenger activity...

This study was to identify anti-metastatic active fractions and compounds of Bolboschoenus yagara (B. yagara). The results indicated that 50 µg/mL ethyl acetate fraction (Et) can dramatically inhibit mouse melanoma B16 cells migration and invasion in vitro. In B16 cells pulmonary and hepatic metastasis assays, 50 µg/mL Et alleviated mouse lung and liver weights, the number of metastatic nodules and the levels of TNF-α and IL-6 in mouse serum and organs. Histological studies showed that Et fraction was able to prevent liver and lung metastasis...

The effect of exogenous application of jasmonic acid (JA) on the concentration of main terpenes and density of glandular trichomes was investigated in the Mexican oregano, propagated from seeds from 3 localities. JA 1 mM was applied locally and to the whole plant. JA locally applied increased the number of trichomes, with a mean of 20 trichomes more with respect to the controls in plants from Tecomavaca and Zapotitlán Salinas, and significantly increased the thymol concentration by 185% systemically and 255% locally, compared to the control...
