BACKGROUND: One of the areas of care in dermatosurgery is the surgical treatment of diseases of the nail organ. Side effects and complications after nail surgery were investigated by telephone follow-up (TFU), and its suitability for postoperative monitoring and consultation was assessed. PATIENTS AND METHODS: All patients who underwent nail surgery at the Department of Dermatology at the Ludwigshafen City Hospital from October 2019 to December 2021 in outpatient setting were contacted by telephone on the second to third postoperative day and questioned in a standardized manner about postoperative complaints and counselled if necessary...

Actinic keratosis (AK) is considered a chronic and recurring in situ skin neoplasia, with a possible transformation into invasive squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Among others, predominant risk factors for development of AK are UV-light exposure and immunosuppression. Basal epidermal keratinocyte atypia (AK I) and proliferation (PRO score) seem to drive malignant transformation, rather than clinical appearance of AK (Olsen I-III). Due to the invasiveness of punch biopsy, those histological criteria are not regularly assessed...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Mycosis fungoides (MF), the most common primary cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, is characterized by a variable clinical course, presenting either as indolent disease or showing fatal progression due to extracutaneous involvement. Importantly, the lack of prognostic models and predominantly palliative therapy settings hamper patient care. Here, we aimed to define survival rates, disease prediction accuracy, and treatment impact in MF. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Hundred-forty MF patients were assessed retrospectively...

The updated S2k guideline deals with the diagnosis and therapy of localized scleroderma (LoS). LoS represents a spectrum of sclerotic skin diseases in which, depending on the subtype and localisation, structures such as adipose tissue, muscles, joints, and bones may also be affected. Involvement of internal organs or progression to systemic sclerosis does not occur. LoS can be classified into four main forms: limited, generalized, linear, and mixed forms, with some additional subtypes. For cases of limited skin involvement, the guideline primarily recommends therapy with topical corticosteroids...

The term occluding vasculopathies covers a large number of different conditions. These often manifest as skin ulcers. Occluding vasculopathies should be considered in the differential diagnosis of leg ulcers. The term "occlusive vasculopathies" encompasses pathophysiologically related entities that share structural or thrombotic obliteration of small cutaneous vessels. In this article, we will focus on livedoid vasculopathy with and without antiphospholipid syndrome and calciphylaxis with differentiation from hypertonic leg ulcer as the most relevant differential diagnoses of leg ulcer...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Outdoor workers are at increased risk of developing non-melanoma skin cancer. We aimed to address the lack of validated German-language measurement instruments for outdoor workers' sun safety behavior and knowledge by compiling and validating two questionnaires. PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS: By expert consensus, items for the assessment of protective behavior (OccuSun) were compiled based on existing instruments. For knowledge, a translation of the Skin Cancer and Sun Knowledge (SCSK) scale was selected...
