BACKGROUND: Weekend effect characterized by worse perioperative outcomes has been demonstrated in some surgery patients admitted on weekends, as opposed to weekdays. This study aimed to examine weekend effect on open surgical repair or thoracic endovascular aneurysm repair (TEVAR) for Stanford Type B Aortic Dissection (TBAD). METHODS: Patients who underwent TBAD repair were identified in National/Nationwisde Inpatient Sample from Q4 2015-2020. Open surgery and TEVAR were examined separately...

The effects of anomalous vasculature impeding optimal exposure to an anterior lumbar interbody fusion approach are limited in literature. We present five individual, unique cases of vascular anomalies in patients undergoing two-stage anterior-posterior lumbar interbody fusion. Cases 1, 2, 4, and 5 have yet to be described in literature in context of anterior lumbar interbody fusions. Case 3 presents anomalous vasculature that has only been described in two other case reports. Case 1 presents the right internal iliac vein originating from the left common iliac vein which was transected for L4-L5 vertebral disc exposure...

INTRODUCTION: While a Desilets-Hoffman sheath rarely fractures, when it does, the presence of an intravenous foreign body can cause various complications. CASE PRESENTATION: A 74-year-old woman receiving hemodialysis for end-stage renal disease via a left forearm arteriovenous graft (AVG) was referred to the interventional radiology department following thrombotic occlusion of the AVG. A corrective procedure was initiated, and the 7F Desilets-Hoffman sheath fractured after the purse-string suture...

Over the last few decades, the use of covered stent grafts became increasingly popular; as it plays a pivotal role in the management of various atherosclerotic diseases that are rising in both incidence and prevalence. Subsequently, vascular stent infections, although rare, are becoming a well-recognized complication with possibly devastating consequences, owing to the difficulties associated with its diagnosis and treatment. This has prompted significant interest in the condition regarding its pathophysiology, modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors, diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, and the possible implementation of prophylactic measures...

In the past two decades, the method of endovascular therapy, particularly utilizing covered stents, has been widely employed to treat arteriovenous fistulas (AVF) following traumatic injury. In this report, we present a case study of a patient with post-traumatic femoral arteriovenous fistula treated using a Viabahn endoprosthesis, during which a rare occurrence of stent deployment obstruction was overcome via successful endovascular intervention. Leveraging the unique release line-based deployment mechanism of the Viabahn stent, we were able to adroitly respond to this emergency situation by adopting a suitable approach via minimally invasive endovascular means, and ultimately resolving the impasse...

BACKGROUND: Bypass surgery in severe aorto-iliac calcifications is a complex procedure. Aortic clamping can be highly risky and endovascular approach can be unsuccessful. We report our experience describing three cases of chronic mesenteric ischemia. In all three cases the preoperative computed tomography angiography revealed an ostial occlusion of the celiac trunk and of the superior mesenteric artery (SMA), a coral reef abdominal aorta, and severe calcification of the iliac arteries...

Gastroduodenal artery aneurysms are a rare type of visceral aneurysm that can lead to rupture and death. We present a 75-year-old male with history of hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia with an incidental finding of a 3.2 × 3.7 cm gastroduodenal aneurysm found on abdominal computed tomography angiography (CTA). After refusing surgical intervention, he was seen two years later and presented with an enlarged gastroduodenal aneurysm, now 5.0 × 5.1 cm, visible on a repeat abdominal CTA...

The management of Kommerell's Diverticulum (KD) has been evolving from open repair to a hybrid of open and endovascular repair. While there is no consensus regarding the optimal strategy, the need for less invasive treatment with less morbidity early recovery, and improved quality of life is a common goal for both the patient and the provider.

The double-barrel stenting (DBS) is a technique in which 2 parallel stents are simultaneously deployed through the same reinforced fenestration, into 2 adjacent target vessels. Prior reports describe the application of this technique for the treatment of superior mesenteric artery dissection with aneurysmal degeneration, coronary artery bifurcations, aortic arch branches, and intracranial aneurysms. The DBS technique is particularly useful in the context of fenestrated repair (FEVAR) of complex anatomy aortic aneurysms when the origin of visceral arteries branch off the aorta very close to each other or present early branches...

BACKGROUND: Masson's tumor, commonly referred to as intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia (IPEH), is an uncommon growth of endothelial cells within a vessel wall that is frequently assumed to indicate an abnormal resolution of thrombosis. IPEH is most typically found in the extremities however it is rare for IPEH to appear as a neck tumor. The issue with IPEH is that it could clinically, radiologically, and pathologically imitate some malignant neoplasms such as angiosarcomas creating a diagnostic challenge...

The effect of changes in bladder volume on the caliber of adjacent veins is underappreciated but essential to recognize to avoid complications such as unnecessary stenting or clot migration causing pulmonary embolism. Here the authors illustrate the importance of this finding in 3 cases using venographic and endovascular sonographic imaging: the first in which BPH-induced chronic bladder outlet obstruction resulted in DVT formation, the second in which the cause was unrecognized and unnecessary stenting performed, and the third in which inappropriate treatment was avoided by decompressing the bladder...

MATERIAL & METHODS: The CQS was developed by consensus agreement between vascular surgeons and accredited clinical vascular scientists through a modified Delphi technique. The protocol comprised a rapid B-mode then colour flow transverse sweep of the common and internal carotid arteries, with internal carotid artery velocity assessment...

Iatrogenic arterial injuries are rare but well-recognised complications of spinal surgery. This paper presents a case of an iatrogenic arterial injury during a total en bloc spondylectomy resulting in significant haemorrhage and the patient's haemodynamic instability. The devastating complication was successfully treated with an emergency thoracic endovascular aortic repair via a percutaneous popliteal approach, while the patient remained in prone position. The patient had an uneventful recovery with no subsequent arterial injury or pseudoaneurysm to the access vessel...

Right sided aortic arches with concomitant aberrant left subclavian arteries are exceedingly rare anatomical variants. We present a case of a 45 year old male that presented with symptoms consistent with dysphagia and known right sided aortic arch with an aberrant left subclavian artery. Though previous reports of repair have indeed been reported, we confirm that a hybrid approach to these anatomic variants remain feasible and with symptom resolution for patients.
