In this work, eight compounds from Phellodendron chinense were separated and purified by pH-zone refining counter-current chromatography and traditional counter-current chromatography coupled with online-storage inner-recycling counter-current chromatography (IRCCC). The pH-zone-refining mode was adopted for separating 2.0 g of crude extract with the solvent system of chloroform-methanol-water (4:3:3, v/v), in which 10 mM hydrochloric acid and 10 mM triethylamine were added in the stationary and mobile phases, respectively...

Mountain-cultivated ginseng is typically harvested after 10 years, while ginseng aged over 15 years is considered wild ginseng. This study aims to differentiate mountain-cultivated ginseng by age, as the fraudulent practice of selling low-aged cultivated ginseng disguised as high-aged one is damaging the market. In this study, LC-MS analyzed 98 ginseng samples, and multivariate statistical analysis identified patterns between samples to select influential components. Machine learning models were developed to identify ginseng samples of different ages...

Vestibular schwannoma is the most common benign neoplasm of the cerebellopontine angle. Its first symptoms include hearing loss, tinnitus, and vestibular symptoms, followed by cerebellar and brainstem symptoms, along with palsy of the adjacent cranial nerves. However, the clinical picture has unpredictable dynamics and currently, there are no reliable predictors of tumor behavior. Hence, it is desirable to have a fast routine method for analysis of vestibular schwannoma tissues at the molecular level. The major objective of this study was to verify whether a technique using in-sample specific protein digestion with trypsin would have the potential to provide a proteomic characterization of these pathological tissues...

Physochlainae Radix (PR) is an essential herbal medicine that has been generally applied for treating cough and asthma. In this study, a comprehensive strategy for quality evaluation of PR from different origins was established by integrating qualitative identification, quantitative analysis, and chemometric methods. A total of 58 chemical components were identified by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS), and a sensitive and rapid UHPLC-QqQ-MS/MS method was established for the simultaneous determination of 12 compounds...

Here, an imine-linked-based spherical covalent organic framework (COF) was prepared at room temperature. The as-synthesized spherical COF served as an adsorbent in dispersive solid-phase extraction (dSPE), by its virtue of great surface area (1542.68 m2 /g), regular distribution of pore size (2.95 nm), and excellent stability. Therefore, a simple and high-efficiency dispersive solid phase extraction method based on a spherical COF coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) was established to determine aryl organophosphate esters in biological samples...

Albumin in plasma controls drugs and free concentrations of bioactive constituents taken to the body with food. Hence, this study aimed to characterise the interactions of histamine with bovine serum albumin. In a three-step procedure, the TLC chromatogram is developed within a decreasing distance by the mobile phase with increasing elution strength (polarity). Microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) is an important technique in analytical chemistry. It offers several advantages over traditional extraction methods, such as improved extraction efficiency, shorter extraction times, reduced solvent consumption, and enhanced analyte recovery. Using microwaves, heat is directly applied to the sample, leading to rapid and efficient extraction of target compounds by enhancing the solubility and diffusion of the target compounds, thus requiring lower solvent volume. Therefore, MAE can be considered a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective option facilitating the transition toward greener and more sustainable analytical chemistry workflows...
