Coronary stent underexpansion is associated with restenosis and stent thrombosis. In clinical studies of atherosclerosis, high wall shear stress (WSS) has been associated with activation of prothrombotic pathways, upregulation of matrix metalloproteinases, and future myocardial infarction.
