Growing pieces of evidence reported abnormal expression of microRNA in various cancer. Our research aimed to ascertain the miR-142-5p expression and its potential function in the growth and metastasis of human nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). In human NPC tissues and cell lines, miR-142-5p expression was quantified via the real-time qPCR assay. Functionally, the potential effect of miR-142-5p in human CNE-1 and SUNE-1 cells through MTT assay, colony formation assay, Transwell assay, and cell cycle assay. In addition, the potential target gene of miR-142-5p was determined by the dual-luciferase reporter assay...

To explore the effect of Prunella vulgaris (PV) combined with Radix bupleuri (RB) on apoptosis of papillary thyroid carcinoma cells. Our study was divided into four groups: the control group, the PV group, the RB group, and the PV combined with the RB group. The viability of cells from different treatment groups was assessed by the CCK-8 assay. Cell migration and invasion were assessed by healing wounding and the transwell assay, respectively. Cell apoptosis rate and cell cycle arrest were detected by a flow cytometry assay...

Chronic hepatitis B infection caused by Hepatitis B virus (HBV), influences over two billion people worldwide despite having an effective vaccine. With a total prevalence of 4.57%, there are 3.3 million estimated HBV carriers in Türkiye. Methylene-tetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) arrange folate metabolism through nucleic acid synthesis and DNA methylation. C677T (rs1801133, p.Ala222Val) and A1298C (rs1801131, p.Glu429Ala) polymorphisms of MTHFR gene have effect of reducing the activity of enzyme. We purposed to investigate the correlation between C677T and A1298C polymorphisms of MTHFR gene with HBV infection in a Turkish population...

Identification of a new G-quadruplex ligand having anti-telomerase activity would be a promising strategy for cancer therapy. The screened compound from ZINC database using docking studies was experimentally verified for its binding with three different telomeric G-quadruplex DNA sequences and anti-telomerase activity in A549 cells. Identified compound is an intrinsic fluorescent molecule, permeable to live cells and has a higher affinity to 22AG out of three different telomeric G-quadruplex DNA. It showed cytotoxicity and a significant reduction of telomerase activity in human A549 cells at a very low dose...

BACKGROUND: Osteoporosis (OP) is a common systemic, metabolic bone disease that affects 40% of postmenopausal women. Oxidative stress (OS) ìs caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS), inhibits osteoblast differentiation and causes apoptosis in osteoblastic cells. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) reduces OS by playing a role in the reduction and defense of intracellular ROS. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between osteopenia/OP and the SOD1 50-bp insertion/deletion (I/D) variant in Turkish postmenopausal women...

A critical strategy to improve the properties of oligonucleotide therapeutics is using cationic molecules as carriers. We developed artificial cationic molecules that bind to A-type oligonucleotide duplexes, such as siRNAs, in a stoichiometric ratio. In this study, we investigated the properties of oligo 2,6-diamino-D-galactoses (ODAGals) and L-2,4-diaminobutanoic acid oligomers (Dabs) and revealed their thermal and biological stabilization effects on A-type duplexes and their chemical stability. As a result, ODAGal and Dab with the same number of amino groups had the commensurate ability for the biological stabilization effect, whereas Dab enhanced the thermal stability of A-type duplexes more effectively than ODAGal...
