Dens invaginatus (DI) is a developmental anomaly of the teeth characterised by the in-folding of the enamel into the dentin. Oehlers' Type III DI is the most serious form, in which the inherently invaginated channels communicate with periodontal and dental pulp tissue, increasing the risk of bacterial contamination. However, varying and complex anatomical features make diagnosis and treatment challenging. Conventional endodontic therapies promote healing by avoiding unnecessary interventions (e.g., surgical or other invasive treatments)...

This study investigated the effect of the timing of primary endodontic treatment and dosage of radiotherapy on the remaining filling material (RFM) during endodontic reintervention. 60 single-rooted human mandibular premolars were distributed into five groups (n = 12), according to the timing and dosage of radiation (55Gy or 70Gy): NegativeCG-non-irradiated teeth; Endo-pre-RT55/70 -obturation before irradiation (55Gy or 70Gy); Endo-post-RT55/70 -obturation and reintervention after irradiation (55Gy or 70Gy)...

The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to conduct a comparative evaluation of partial and full pulpotomy techniques in cariously exposed teeth with symptoms indicative of symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. Databases such as PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane, and Web of Science were searched. Studies evaluating and/or comparing clinical and/or radiographic success of partial and full pulpotomy in teeth diagnosed with irreversible pulpitis with a minimum of 12 months follow-up were included...

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of ibuprofen sustained release (SR) oral premedication on the efficacy of buccal infiltration (BI) with intraoperative and postoperative pain after single-visit root canal treatment. Sixty patients diagnosed with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis and apical periodontitis in mandibular molar were divided into two groups. Group SR received ibuprofen SR 800 mg and group PL received placebo capsule 1 h before 3.6 mL articaine BI injection. Pain was recorded using a modified visual analogue scale and postoperatively at intervals 6, 24 and 48 h...

This report presents the detection, characterisation, instrumentation and filling of complex canal configurations in the mesiobuccal (MB) root of maxillary first molars. Three patients were referred for root canal treatment in first maxillary molars. Medical history, age, sex and clinical findings were recorded. Intraoral periapical radiographs and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) were used for diagnosis and pre-operative assessment. Using Ahmed et al. (2017) classification system, codes 3 MaxM MB3-5-4-2 DB1-2-1 P1 (case 1), 3 MaxM MB2-5-3-2 DB1 P1 (case 2) and 3 MaxM MB1-4-2-1-2 DB1 P1 (case 3) were identified...

Apical periodontitis is an inflammatory condition resulting from microbial invasion in the root canal system, causing periapical tissue destruction and bone resorption. This study investigated melatonin's effects, known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, on experimentally induced apical periodontitis in rats. Three groups of rats were studied: control, apical periodontitis and apical periodontitis with melatonin treatment. Proinflammatory cytokines and enzyme levels in blood serum were measured, and micro-CT analysis assessed bone resorption...

The aim of this report is to demonstrate the guided tooth autotransplantation of a palatally impacted maxillary canine into the site of a failed maxillary canine dental implant. A 47-year-old woman visited a dental clinic complaining of loose dental implant in the left maxillary canine site, tooth #11, as well as pain and swelling of the gum around the implant. The clinical examination revealed a mobile implant along with swollen soft tissues with bleeding on probing. A periapical radiograph demonstrated peri-implant marginal bone loss...

This study aimed to evaluate the interface of universal adhesive (UA) with bulk-fill resin (BF) and dentin, after endodontic irrigation. The pulp chamber of 96 molars was irrigated with chlorhexidine 2% (CHX) or sodium hypochlorite 5.25% (NaOCl) and restored according to three restorative protocols. Microtensile bond strength (μTBS) and nanoleakage tests were performed after 24 h of thermocycling. Kruskal Wallis, Mann-Whitney and Wilcoxon were performed (p < 0.05). Comparing restorative systems, a difference was found only when irrigated with CHX after 24 h...

Orthodontic cases requiring tooth extraction sometimes involve post-traumatic incisors. For adolescent cases in which trauma causes the maxillary unilateral incisors to be missing or have poor prognoses, it is worth considering these teeth as candidates for extraction, and this unusual approach is seldom reported in the literature. An adolescent patient with a missing maxillary left lateral incisor and an ankylosed maxillary left central incisor sought treatment for dental protrusion and crowding. An unusual orthodontic approach was used, which involved the extraction of the maxillary left central incisor and mandibular first premolars...

This study investigated the root canal morphology of fused-rooted mandibular second molars based on the pulp chamber floor (PCF) and analysed the correlation between the external morphology of the radicular groove, and the internal morphology of the PCF and root canal configuration. A total of 291 fused-rooted teeth collected from the Chinese population were scanned using micro-computed tomography and a dental operating microscope was used for observing the PCFs. The aim of this study was to assess whether calcium silicate root fillings prevent bacterial penetration and to determine how bacteria penetrate roots. Extracted single-rooted, single-canal human teeth were decoronated, prepared and filled with ProRootMTA or Biodentine (n = 12 each). Positive and negative (n = 2 each) controls were not filled. A two-chamber model was used with Streptococcus gordonii. The lower compartment was evaluated for turbidity over 150 days. Roots were split and examined for bacteria via SEM...

This study aims to assess the influence of root canal preparation, irrigation needle design and its placement depth in the irrigation flow of confluent canals during syringe irrigation. A mandibular molar presenting two confluent canals in its mesial root was sequentially prepared and scanned by micro-computed tomography after mechanical preparation up to ProTaper Next system sizes X2 (25/.06v), X3 (30/.07v) and X4 (40/.06v). In each of the root canal preparation models, a side-vented and an open-ended needle at 5, 3 and 2 mm from the working length were included, and irrigation flow was assessed by a validated computational fluid dynamics model...

This study assessed the influence of diverse variables on the outcome of nonsurgical root canal treatment/retreatment. In general, 304 teeth from 218 patients were treated/retreated and the outcome evaluated by the periapical index (PAI). Teeth with apical periodontitis lesions that have not completely healed were classified as success or failure based on lenient and rigid criteria, respectively. Findings were evaluated using a logistic regression analysis. The overall success rates were 74% and 82% using the PAI-rigid and lenient success criteria, respectively...
