The outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 pandemic has led to unprecedented challenges globally. At the outset of the receding second wave and third wave of COVID-19, many patients who have recovered from the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) are coming for elective/emergency surgery. This demands a noteworthy emphasis on the post-COVID-19 obstetric patients. The administration of quality and safe obstetric anesthesia are quite challenging in this mentioned subset due to the overlap of signs and symptoms of COVID-19 with the constitutional signs and symptoms of pregnancy...

Background and Aims: Mechanical ventilation in prone position was associated with a reduction in mortality and increase in arterial oxygenation in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) patients. However, physiological effects of prone position in COVID ARDS patients are unknown. Material and Methods: In this prospective observational study, data of n = 47 consecutive real time RT- PCR confirmed SARS-CoV-2-infected patients with severe ARDS were included. Respiratory mechanics and oxygenation data of recruited patients were collected before and after prone position...

Background and Aims: Percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy (PDT) may improve the outcome in critically ill COVID-19 patients on mechanical ventilation. However, the timing of performing tracheostomy may be controversial, and it is an aerosol-generating procedure with a potential risk of viral exposure to healthcare workers. Material and Methods: An operational protocol for performing PDT was made and subsequently followed in a designated COVID-19 ICU. Critically ill adult patients on mechanical ventilators who underwent PDT were included in this retrospective cohort study...

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: COVID-19 has necessitated restrictions on elective surgical workload, which could adversely affect the learning of the core clinical competencies of the postgraduate anesthesiology trainees. The aim was to assess and compare the loss of elective cases requiring anesthesia management and associated procedural skills in six months since lockdown compared to the same duration in 2019. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We compared the data, obtained from electronic medical records, of the total number of elective surgeries requiring anesthesia management and the following procedural skills in both adults and pediatric patients in 6 months duration in 2019 and 2020: 1) Laryngoscopy and Intubation 2) Laryngeal mask airway 3) Arterial and central line cannulations and 4) Spinal, Epidural, Other Regional blocks...

Background and Aims: There is a marked inclination towards cesarean sections as the preferred mode of delivery in parturients with COVID-19 disease. However, the challenges associated with planning and performing a surgery in the COVID-19 setup are considerable. These factors may lead to widespread changes in obstetric decision-making, operative planning, and perioperative outcomes. Thus, our study aimed to study the clinical and logistical factors involved in cesarean sections in COVID-19 parturients...

Background and Aims: Many patients with COVID-19 become critically ill and requireICU admission. Risk factors associated with mortality have been studied, but this study provides insight regarding disease progression and hence help to plan rescue strategies to improve patient outcome. Material and Methods: This retrospective, observational study included all patients with diagnosis of COVID-19 from March1 to June30,2021 who died in hospital. Results: During the study period, 1600 patients were admitted, with 1138 (71%) needing ICU care...
