Tonsillar synovial sarcoma is an extremely rare entity and only 9 adult patients have been reported up to now. Here, we describe the first pediatric tonsillar synovial sarcoma of the literature in a patient who presented with a 2-month history of dysphagia and snoring. Clinical and radiological examinations showed that the tumor arose from the right palatine tonsil and narrowed the parapharyngeal space. An incisional biopsy from the palatine tonsil revealed the diagnosis of synovial sarcoma. The patient has underwent total tonsillectomy and received radiotherapy and chemotherapy because of the positive surgical margins...

Seborrheic keratosis, one of the most common lesions of the epidermis, is rarely seen on mucosal surfaces. We report a case of a distinctive epithelial neoplasm of the esophagus showing close resemblance to seborrheic keratosis that was resected with endoscopic submucosal dissection. A 65-year-old patient's previous esophageal biopsy showed suspicious low grade dysplasia and the patient was referred for endoscopic submucosal dissection of a flat lesion in the mid-esophagus. Macroscopic examination revealed a well circumscribed, pigmented and elevated lesion with a diameter of 20 mm...

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) of lung is a rare tumor, accounting for ~0.7% of all lung tumors with varied clinical and radiological presentations. The origin of this tumor is unknown but some studies suggest that it might be a true neoplasm as some mutations on chromosome 2p23 of anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) have been found to be related to this tumor. The morphology of IMT is quite vague and the histopathological diagnosis is predominantly given on excision specimens; in fact, only 6.3% of cases are diagnosed based on analysis of biopsy specimens alone...

Primary thyroid lymphomas are pretty uncommon, and constitute about 5% of the neoplasms of this organ. Spontaneous tumor regression is defined as the total or partial disappearance of a tumor as proven by microscope without treatment or under inadequate treatment. It is estimated to happen in one out of 60,000-100,000 cases. We present a case of primary thyroid lymphoma with spontaneous regression after diagnostic puncture and corroborated with hemithyroidectomy at four months. The patient died after twenty-six months of follow-up because of endocarditis and there was no relapse at any time...

OBJECTIVE: Meconium passage during labour is a quite common finding. Studies describing correlation between meconium stained liquor, fetal distress and specific placental pathology are sparse. This case control study had been designed to ascertain these lacunae of knowledge. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Placentae from 41 cases of otherwise uncomplicated antenatal and intranatal pregnancies with meconium stained liquor at 37 completed weeks of gestation were studied, both grossly and microscopically, comparing them with controls of 41 cases of clear liquor...

OBJECTIVE: Granulomatous mastitis is a rare inflammatory condition of the breast clinically mimicking breast carcinoma and pyogenic abscess, thereby creating a diagnostic dilemma. Tuberculous mastitis is a rare clinical entity accounting for approximately 3% of all mammary lesions. All cases of granulomatous mastitis diagnosed cytologically over a period of 3 years were evaluated to ascertain the cases with tuberculous etiology. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Fine needle aspiration cytology of the breast lump was performed and all the cytological parameters were evaluated...

Prune belly syndrome (PBS) is characterized by a classical triad of congenitally absent abdominal muscles, bilateral cryptorchidism, and a malformed urinary tract. Urorectal septum malformation sequence (URSM) is identified with the absence of urogenital and anal openings. This case report describes a 15-week-old female fetus with megacystis, ascites and oligohydramnios in a 19-year-old nulliparous woman. The patient underwent preterm labor at the 33rd gestational week and delivered a female newborn weighing 2250 grams who died three days later due to progressive respiratory insufficiency...

OBJECTIVE: Predictive and prognostic markers have revolutionized personalized therapy in non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). Crizotinib is now approved for locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC that is anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) positive by either Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) or immunohistochemistry (IHC). The current study aimed to detect the incidence of ALK gene re-arrangement in the Indian population, to compare the various IHC antibodies with FISH as a gold standard, and to analyze the morphology of cases with ALK phenotype...

OBJECTIVE: Frozen section evaluation is routinely used by oncosurgeons across specialties for rapid assessment of the presence of tumor in any tissue and its most common use is in surgical margins. Today, the use of intraoperative frozen-section evaluation of surgical margins is an accepted and frequent practice in head and neck oncology. This study aims to determine the efficacy and accuracy of frozen sections in head and neck cancer patients and compare the results with the respective paraffin sections and also to analyze the reasons for any disparity between them...

Teratoid Wilms tumor is a rare variant of Wilms tumor composed predominantly of well-differentiated epithelial and/or mesenchymal heterologous elements. Like the classical Wilms tumor, this variant may also occur as a renal mass or may be found in extra renal locations. This tumor may be treated effectively by surgical resection; however, it generally fails to respond to chemotherapy. A review of the literature revealed 30 reported cases of intra renal and 5 reports of extra renal teratoid Wilms tumor. We report our experience with an additional three cases of renal teratoid Wilms tumor adding to the 30 cases previously reported...

OBJECTIVE: The 2015 WHO classification classifies neuroendocrine tumours (NET) of the lung into typical carcinoid, atypical carcinoid, large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma and small cell carcinoma based on morphology alone. Mitosis is the major parameter for this classification, and thus several studies have focused on the role of Ki67 in these tumours but without conclusive results. The aim of the study was to categorize neuroendocrine tumours of the lung based on morphology and to assess the utility of Ki67 in diagnosis...
