Sensorineural hearing loss is relatively well established in the squamosal chronic otitis media. However, its association with mucosal COM is still debated. The present study aimed at evaluating the prevalence of sensorineural hearing loss in unilateral mucosal COM. The study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital in New Delhi, and 60 patients with unilateral mucosal chronic otitis media were recruited. Pure tone thresholds were ascertained for air and bone conduction in an acoustically treated room and matched against certain patient and disease characteristics...

Infantile fibrosarcoma is an uncommon soft tissue tumour in infants and children mostly located in the extremities. Its occurrence in the head and neck, particularly in the oral cavity is extremely rare. Here, we report a case of infantile fibrosarcoma of the tongue base in a 9-year-old boy and discuss the complexities in arriving at diagnosis and its management. The patient underwent wide local excision of the tumour. Histopathology was essential in confirming the diagnosis. As per search in English literature, this is the first case of infantile fibrosarcoma of the tongue base to be reported till date...

UNLABELLED: Background: Contrast Induced Sialadenitis or Iodide Mumps refers to non-suppurative inflammation of salivary glands following intravenous iodinated contrast administration. It is a rare adverse effect of iodinated contrast with only a few cases reported worldwide. It is hypothesized to be an idiosyncratic reaction due to toxic accumulation of iodine in salivary glands. Case Report: We report a case of a 40-year-old female patient who underwent CECT brain after intravenous injection of 40ml of non-ionic iodinated contrast and developed symmetric painless swelling in bilateral submandibular triangles within five hours of contrast administration...

Parastomal recurrence occurs in around 5% of patients undergoing total laryngectomy for laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma. It carries a poor prognosis which has changed little over the last 50 years, and poses a significant challenge to the head and neck surgeon. At present, surgical excision offers the only realistic chance of cure, although patients must be selected carefully following thorough work-up and in-depth multidisciplinary team discussion. This article provides a review of the literature on the management of parastomal recurrence following total laryngectomy...

The most common endocrine cancer is thyroid carcinoma, however it seldom spreads to the oral cavity. Follicular thyroid carcinoma is the second most common type of thyroid cancer after papillary thyroid carcinoma. Thyroid carcinoma-related mandibular metastases is not very common, and there aren't many cases reported in the literature. We are describing a case in which the underlying cancer was diagnosed before the metastatic mandibular lesion was found. Total thyroidectomy and excision of the affected structures, with or without adjuvant therapy, appear to be the most effective treatments...

Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue(MALT) lymphoma is a distinct subtype of lymphoma, presenting as a diffuse gland involvement or a discrete mass. Pre-operative diagnosis is a challenge as Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology is often inconclusive and presently no radiological investigation is confirmatory, therefore final diagnosis is made after surgical resection and immunohistopathology. We report a case of MALT lymphoma, which clinically presented as a unilateral large diffuse swelling of the parotid gland with a diagnostic dilemma eventually underwent total parotidectomy to be finally diagnosed as MALT lymphoma of parotid gland and received field radiotherapy with complete cure and no recurrence in a 2-year follow-up...
