OBJECTIVE: To determine burden and identify correlates of erectile dysfunction (ED) among men with prediabetes (PreD) and type 2 diabetes (T2D) enrolled in the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) Outcomes Study (DPPOS). RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: The 2017 DPPOS visit included administration of the International Index of Erectile Function. Of 648 male participants, 88 % (n = 568) completed the survey. Associations between sociodemographic, behavioral, clinical, and glycemic measures at time of ED assessment, and ED were examined using multivariable logistic regression models in men with PreD and T2D separately...

Cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy (CAN) is a frequent complication of diabetes mellitus and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality in patients with diabetes. Hence, early and correct diagnosis of CAN is crucial. Standard cardiovascular reflex rests (CARTs) have been the gold standard of CAN assessment. Originally, CARTs consisted of five reflex tests, but measuring diastolic blood pressure response to sustained handgrip exercise has no longer been suggested as an established clinical test. Increasing body of evidence suggests that isometric handgrip test should no longer be used for the evaluation of sympathetic dysfunction during cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy assessment in diabetic patients...

AIMS: Growing preclinical and clinical evidence has suggested the potential method of umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell (UCMSC) therapy for diabetic foot. Thus, the authors provided an outline of the application of UCMSCs in the treatment of diabetic foot and further summarized the roles and mechanisms of this therapy. DATA SYNTHESIS: With no time limitations, the authors searched the Web of Science, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and PubMed (MEDLINE) databases...

AIMS: In this study we described the clinical and laboratory features of children presented with diabetic ketosis or diabetic ketoacidosis at diagnosis of type 1 diabetes (T1DM) and evaluated its course up to 2 years after initial diagnosis to investigate the progression rate of T1DM in both groups. METHODS: This was a prospective longitudinal cohort study that included 59 children and adolescents presented with either diabetic ketosis (DK) (n = 27) or diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) (n = 32) at their first diagnosis with T1DM...

AIMS: Patients undergoing insulin-based therapy for type 1 diabetes often experience poor glycemic control characterized by significant fluctuations. This study was undertaken to analyze the effect of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2Is), as an adjunct to insulin, on time in range (TIR) and glycemic variability in patients with type 1 diabetes, using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). In addition, we examined which type of SGLT2I yielded a superior effect compared to others...

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is increasing globally, and seeking therapeutic molecule targets is urgent. Several studies have demonstrated that IL-33 plays an important role in the progression of Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) with fibrosis and the proliferation of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, whether the inhibition of IL-33 signaling prevents NAFLD from progressing to NASH and HCC has not been clarified. We investigated the effects of a novel antibody, IL-33RAb, and luseogliflozin, a SGLT2 inhibitor, when administered to a model mouse for NASH and HCC, and their effects were compared to investigate the mechanisms of how IL-33 is involved in the pathogenesis of NASH progression...

Alzheimer Associated Diabetes Mellitus, commonly known as Type 3 Diabetes Mellitus (T3DM) is a distinct subtype of diabetes with a pronounced association with Alzheimer's disease (AD). Insulin resistance serves as a pivotal link between these two conditions, leading to diminished insulin sensitivity, hyperglycemia, and impaired glucose uptake. The brain, a vital organ in AD context, is also significantly impacted by insulin resistance, resulting in energy deficits and neuronal damage, which are hallmark features of the neurodegenerative disorder...

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to investigate circulating biomarkers associated with the risk of developing diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) and nephropathy in type 1 diabetes (T1D). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with childhood-onset T1D (n = 49, age 38.3 ± 3.8 yrs.) followed prospectively were evaluated after 30 years of diabetes duration. DPN was defined as an abnormality in nerve conduction tests. Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and its tissue inhibitor TIMP-1, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin-2 (NGAL), soluble P-selectin (sP-selectin), estimated GFR (eGFR), micro/macroalbuminuria and routine biochemistry were assessed...

BACKGROUND: Diabetic retinopathy is a common microvascular complication of diabetes and one of the major causes of blindness in the working-age population. Emerging evidence has elucidated that inflammation drives the key mechanism of diabetes-mediated retinal disturbance. As a new therapeutic drug targeting diabetes, whether dapagliflozin could improve vascular permeability from the perspective of anti-inflammatory effect need to be further explored. METHODS: Type 2 diabetic retinopathy rat model was established and confirmed by fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA)...
