OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the video-based application of evidence-based stigma reduction strategies to increase medical students' screening-diagnostic self-efficacy for opioid use disorder (OUD) and reduce stigma toward opioid use. METHODS: Formative qualitative research informed development of two videos for medical students. One uses an education strategy by including education regarding non-stigmatizing language use and OUD screening and diagnosis (Video A); the other uses an interpersonal contact strategy by presenting narratives regarding opioid use from three people who have a history of opioid use and three physicians (Video B)...

OBJECTIVE: Few data describe how general psychiatry residencies prepare trainees to care for individuals with neurocognitive disorders (NCDs), despite increasing recognition of the need for psychiatrists to provide care for the growing numbers of patients with NCD. This study aims to identify training needs and approaches, as the resident experience is one important perspective that can be added to others, such as milestones developed by expert educators. METHODS: The authors conducted three focus groups of third- and fourth-year general adult psychiatry residency trainees from three different training programs in May and June of 2021...

OBJECTIVES: Psychiatric physicians may experience higher rates of assault than those in other fields. For many reasons, residents may be especially vulnerable. This study updates rates of assaults among US psychiatry residents as well as the reporting rates and emotional effects of these incidents. Little data exists to examine rates of microaggressions against psychiatry residents. METHODS: A cross-sectional online survey was distributed through a national residency database via a snowball-sampling approach between June and September of 2021...

OBJECTIVES: The current study investigated the gap between actual and expected work responsibilities of psychiatry vice chairs of education (VCEs), their work satisfaction, and perceived work barriers. METHODS: Psychiatry VCEs were identified through professional memberships and school websites within the USA. In 2021, identified VCEs were emailed an anonymous survey that was based on past research on roles and responsibilities of VCEs. Through qualitative and quantitative questions, the survey assessed demographic characteristics, actual and expected work responsibilities, work satisfaction, and work barriers during time spent in the VCE role...
