Gossypiboma is a rare surgical complication associated with significant patient morbidity and even mortality. Migratory gossypiboma is a rarer subset of these cases, representing the erosion of surgical sponge into the intestine with consequent complications. A 40 years old female presented with a surgical sponge that had eroded into the caecum and subsequently moved with peristalsis up to the anal canal from which it was protruding out at the time of presentation. Proper checking before surgical closure can prevent this serious potentially lifethreatening complication...

Gall stone ileus associated with cholecysto-duodenal fistula is a rare pathology. It most commonly presents in elderly females in 72-90% of cases. In such a case, a patient typically presents with recurrent attacks of sub-acute intestinal obstruction which usually resolves completely with conservative management only to recur again after some time. We are reporting a case of an 85-yearold gentleman who presented to us with gallstone ileus associated with cholecysto-duodenal fistula and his subsequent management...

Postoperative diaphragmatic hernia (PDH) is an increasingly reported complication of esophageal cancer surgery. It occurs more frequently with minimally invasive techniques and very little is known about its pathogenesis. Currently, no consensus exists concerning preventive measures and its management. A 36 years old male underwent minimally invasive esophagectomy and presented with chest pain and dyspnoea in the emergency department 8 months after the procedure. He was started on acute coronary syndrome treatment protocol but was later diagnosed on CT scan to have diaphragmatic hernia through a defect in the oesophageal hiatus...

Chondroblastoma is an uncommon and benign bone tumour. No more than 10 cases of lumbar chondroblastoma have been reported in the past 20 years. To describe the clinical presentations and radiological features of a rare case of chondroblastoma of the lumbar spine, this study reports one case involving the third lumbar vertebrae. A 22-year-old female presented with left lower back pain and numbness. CT revealed tumour infiltration of the third lumbar vertebrae and left psoas major displacement, which was found to be a chondroblastoma by surgery...

Angioedema is a life-threatening reaction characterized by swelling of the face, lips, tongue or larynx. Known adverse effects of Pitavastatin do not include angioedema. We report first case of a 55-year-old Asian male developing post exposure angioedema to 2 mg Pitavastatin. Note that the patient showed no history of hypersensitivity. Relationship between Pitavastatin and angioedema was assessed by Naranjo scale.

Ramadan, the ninth month of Islamic calendar brings alongwith it a sense of responsibility to fast among the Muslim adult population. Though patients with chronic illnesses like Diabetes mellitus are exempted from fasting during the month if their health does not allow, they still wish to fast. This creates a challenge for the health care professionals to enable the patients with Diabetes mellitus to fast safely, without developing complications like hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, ketoacidosis and thrombosis...

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death worldwide, and coronary artery disease (CAD) is the most prevalent manifestation associated with high mortality and morbidity. Older age is independent predictor of cardiovascular mortality and death. Elderly may experience high rates of complications following acute STEMI. Optimal reperfusion strategy in elderly following STEMI remains under debate due to their exclusion from trials evaluating various treatment modalities...

Rib fixation results in immediate pain reduction in patients. Although rib fixation shows promising results, conservative management is still preferred. METHODS: The study was carried out in CMH Lahore from Jan 2017 to March 2018. It was a Controlled Prospective study. Convenient sampling was used. 43 patients are included in the study...
