Synchronous tumors comprising of cortical as well as medullary differentiation are rare in the adrenal gland. Collision tumors comprise of two independent neoplasms arising from the cortex and the medulla without any histological admixture. Adrenal cortico-medullary mixed tumors are rare tumors comprising of adrenal cortical and chromaffin cells intermixed with each other. Ganglioneuroma is a rare benign tumor originating from the paravertebral sympathetic ganglia and is rarely seen in the adrenal medulla. The presence of a synchronous ganglioneuroma with an adrenal cortical adenoma in the ipsilateral adrenal gland is exceedingly rare...

A 70-year-old man diagnosed with acinar adenocarcinoma prostate (Gleason score 4 + 4 = 8) underwent bone scintigraphy due to high serum prostate-specific antigen level (224 ng/mL; normal <4 ng/mL). Bone scan revealed moderately increased diffuse tracer uptake in the right hemipelvis, while the rest of the scan appeared normal, leading to suspicion of Paget's disease. Gallium-68-prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) positron emission tomography-computed tomography scan (CT) showed a PSMA-avid lesion in the left lobe of the prostate, with no PSMA uptake in the areas of diffuse sclerosis in the right hemipelvis, as seen on CT...

Paraganglioma is relatively rare retroperitoneal tumors. If functional retroperitoneal paragangliomas are misdiagnosed, surgical intervention can precipitate intraoperative hypertensive crises which may have serious consequences. We present a case of a 40-year-old female who presented with a large functional right-sided retroperitoneal paraganglioma encasing the inferior vena cava (IVC). The patient underwent paraganglioma excision with IVC resection with right nephrectomy. Such complex multivisceral resections require surgical expertise and are feasible at high-volume centers experienced in performing retroperitoneal surgeries...

INTRODUCTION: Elevated serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is the most common trigger for a prostate biopsy. However, the range of normal PSA is poorly defined in many populations. Men with "elevated" PSA may not harbor cancer, and it is unclear if such men with a prior negative prostate biopsy should be biopsied again. We conducted a cohort study to assess the PSA trends and cancer detection rates in such men. METHODS: In an Institutional Review Board-approved ambispective study, men who underwent prostate biopsy between January 2016 and December 2021 for PSA > 4 ng/mL were identified...

INTRODUCTION: It is unclear when pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) should be performed during laparoscopic radical cystectomy. Proponents of PLND performed before cystectomy claim that early PLND skeletonizes the urinary bladder's vascular pedicles, making cystectomy easy. Others contend that an early cystectomy provides space and flexibility during subsequent PLND. This first-of-its-kind study compared PLND before and after cystectomy for the ease of performing surgery (total operative time, cystectomy time, and PLND time) and the operative outcomes (number of lymph nodes removed, blood loss, and complication rates)...

INTRODUCTION: This bibliometric study is designed to investigate the relations of urology journals with access types and article processing charges (APCs) to assess the changing paradigm in urology publishing. METHODS: The three major databases: The Master Journal List directory by Clavirate Analytics, Scopus® and PubMed were queried for relevant journals in urology and subspecialties. Characterization of urology journals was undertaken, and citation metrics and APCs were compared across access types...

A rare disease at an aberrant location can mimic a usual presentation of another disease. We report a case of primary amelanotic malignant melanoma of the prostate with clinical and histological characteristics that closely mimic poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma prostate.

INTRODUCTION: We retrospectively compared surgical and oncological outcomes of robot-assisted (RA) radical nephroureterectomy (RNU) in patients of upper-tract urothelial carcinoma with a cohort of patients who underwent the same procedure using a laparoscopic approach. METHODS: Data of 63 consecutive patients who underwent RNU with bladder cuff excision (BCE) from 2011 to 2022 at a single tertiary care institution was retrospectively retrieved from the electronically maintained institutional database...

INTRODUCTION: Prostate cancer usually affects older men and accounts for considerable cancer-associated mortality in men globally. In India, there is a rise in prostate cancer, and the published literature to determine age-specific prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is limited by a small sample size. The objective of our study was to determine age-specific PSA for Indian men based on a very large cohort of apparently healthy men undergoing health screening. METHODS: This was a retrospective study using the hospital-based database of men who had undergone PSA blood tests as a part of health screening at two tertiary referral centers in South India between January 1, 2011, and August 31, 2018...

INTRODUCTION: Transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) guided systematic prostate biopsy is conventionally used for the diagnosis of carcinoma prostate (CaP). However, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guided biopsies have been shown to have superior diagnostic performance. MRI-TRUS fusion biopsy improves the detection by combining the systematic and the targeted biopsies (TB). In this study, we evaluated the role of fusion biopsy in the detection of CaP as well as clinically significant carcinoma prostate (CsCaP)...

INTRODUCTION: The number of renal tumors amenable to laparoscopic surgery is rising, both, due early detection by improved imaging techniques and due to progressive improvements in minimal access surgery. Conversion to open surgery, which is a significant event, can be minimized by proper case selection. We assessed the pre-operative factors that can predict the operative difficulty and can help in case selection, thus avoiding complications and reducing the chances of conversion to open...
