BACKGROUND: There is little and heterogeneous knowledge on the links between the temperamental predispositions of psychopathology and the contemporary dimensional models of psychopathology, such as the Hierarchical Taxonomy of Psychopathology (HiTOP) classification system, which can be aligned with the five-factor model (FFM) of personality. This meta-analysis seeks to expand the temperamental theoretical basis of the HiTOP model by incorporating associations of temperament traits of two temperamental theories measured, respectively, by the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) and the Temperament Evaluation of Memphis, Pisa, Paris, and San Diego Autoquestionnaire (TEMPS-A) with (a) the FFM's personality domains and (b) HiTOP's five psychopathological spectra...

Research outcomes in mental health disciplines are usually assessed using rating instruments that were developed as English language versions. However, in countries such as India, English is not the native language, and patients at even a single research center may speak in different regional tongues. It is permissible to assess such patients using rater-administered English language instruments designed to be scored after an unstructured interview conducted in the patient's preferred language. For many reasons, related to reliability and validity, it is not permissible to assess such patients in their preferred language by translating, impromptu, from English language versions of instruments that were designed to be self-administered or administered as a structured interview...

BACKGROUND: Schizophrenia is a chronic severe mental illness with heterogeneous clinical presentation, course, and outcome. Cognitive impairment is one of its core features. Retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) imaging using OCT (optical coherence tomography) could provide easy access for in vivo imaging of the retina, rendering it as a "window to the brain." Studies done on schizophrenia have shown RNFL thinning. This study attempts to look into the association between cognitive impairment, disease duration, and RNFL abnormality in patients with schizophrenia using OCT...

This follow-up study is, therefore, an attempt to understand the coping styles and strategies that are associated with relapse among individuals dependent on alcohol. METHODS: We aimed to cross-sectionally assess the severity of alcohol dependence and coping styles of Alcohol dependent individuals...

In the relational playground of psychotherapy, negotiating therapeutic distance is crucial for the process as well as the outcome of treatment. The challenge of navigating this closeness and distance may be accentuated during emotionally charged interactions in therapy. Therapist and client may get locked in complementary, rigid positions, leading to either submission or resistance to the others' demands. The therapist's ability to respond appropriately to these pushes and pulls is supported by their ability to mentalize, which is their ability to attend to and understand their own states of mind while being aware of others' states of mind...

We aimed to find the association among the presence of insomnia, sleep-related cognitions, and behaviors among patients diagnosed with anxiety or depression. METHODOLOGY: The present cross-sectional comparison study included patients with anxiety spectrum or depressive disorders as per the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders-fifth edition and healthy controls...

BACKGROUND: There is increasing evidence of the need for treatment engagement between Persons with Severe Mental Illnesses (PwSMIs) and Mental Health Professionals (MHPs). This therapeutic process involves collaborative work between patients and MHPs, which improves the condition. Community nurses are uniquely positioned to facilitate this process as they act as the focal point of interaction between patients and the health system. METHODS: This qualitative study explored the community nurses' experiences in treatment engagement with PwSMI through eight group interviews of 35 community nurses from District Mental Health Programs (DMHPs) across Karnataka (South India) from February 2020 to March 2020...
