OBJECTIVE: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a frequently occurring complication during pregnancy and has adverse effects on both mother and off-spring. β-cell dysfunction and inflammation play important roles in GDM pathogenesis. Cornuside is an iridoid glycoside that exhibits anti-inflammation activities. In the present study, we explored the effects of Cornuside on β-cell and GDM. Design section: MIN6 β-cell line cells were treated with varying concentrations of Cornuside...

OBJECTIVES: Luteinizing hormone plays a key role in normal follicular development and oocyte maturation in controlled ovarian stimulation. Luteinizing hormone stimulates the proliferation and differentiation of theca cells for the secretion of androgens, synergistically increasing estrogen production. This study aimed to investigate the effects of low luteinizing hormone concentrations on oocyte retrieval, fertilization and embryo development in patients undergoing in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection...

INTRODUCTION: Usefulness of hysteroscopy before assisted reproductive technique (ART) was considered debatable. However, over the last decade, several new trials were added to available literature. We aimed to assess the impact of diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy on reproductive outcomes of infertile women with and without intrauterine abnormalities. MATERIALS AND METHODS: MEDLINE, Scopus, Scielo, EMBASE, Cochrane Library at CENTRAL, PROSPERO, CINAHL, grey literature, conference proceedings, and international controlled trials registries were searched without temporal, geographical, or language restrictions...

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether Ramadan month-long daily fasting affects semen analysis parameters. METHODS: this retrospective cohort study was conducted in tertiary academic medical center. Medical records of 97 Muslim patients who were admitted to the IVF unit from May 2011-May 2021 were reviewed. Only men who provided at least one semen sample during Ramadan period (Ramadan month +70 days after) and one sample not during Ramadan were included. Semen characteristics of each patient were independently compared to himself...

Today most women with gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) can expect to be cured particularly if they live in middle to high income countries with access to GTD centres. In contrast, countries lacking organized GTD care achieve lower survival rates. This review considers some of the successes and areas for improvement in GTD care that have been achieved through national and international collaborations.

Background Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (GTD) is a rare pregnancy related condition consisting of premalignant and malignant forms arising from proliferation of trophoblastic cells. The malignant forms are collectively referred to as Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia (GTN) and are highly sensitive to chemotherapy. However, surgical procedures remain indispensable in the diagnosis and treatment of GTD. Objectives The aim of this review is to summarize surgical interventions in the treatment of GTD and GTN...

OBJECTIVES: Human epididymis protein 4 (HE4), a protein secreted by ovarian tumors, has been used as an ovarian tumor marker. This study aimed to improve the usefulness of HE4 to detect malignant ovarian tumors by reviewing the cut-off values. DESIGN: Retrospective study without intervention Participants: One hundred forty nine healthy women (premenopausal, 126; postmenopausal, 23) and 24 patients with ovarian tumors (malignant, 12; benign, 12). SETTING: The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of a University hospital in Japan and the University hospital as a workplace from 2016 to 2018...

OBJECTIVE: Our study's primary objective was to examine the effects of four different prophylactic protocols on the prevention of postpartum hemorrhage following vaginal birth, including carbetocin only, oxytocin only, and a combination of carbetosin or oxytocin with tranexamic acid. DESIGN: A multicentric randomized controlled trial. METHODS: Participants/Materials, Setting, and Methods: This multicentric center prospective randomized controlled trial was conducted at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Bezmialem University and Van Health Teaching and Research Hospital from August 2022 to January 2023...

INTRODUCTION: Intra-abdominal adhesions are abnormal fibrous attachments between tissues and organs that can be congenital or acquired. Adhesion formation is a critical postoperative complication that may lead to bowel obstruction, chronic abdominal pain and infertility. Physical barrier agents separate opposing peritoneal surfaces in the critical 5-day period of remesotheliazation. These agents are subdivided into solid or liquid/gel. Liquid agents seem easier to use in laparoscopic procedures than solid agents...

OBJECTIVES: When a labor process is complicated by non-reassuring fetal status (NRFS), obstetricians focus on delivery to optimize neonatal status. We explored maternal morbidity in the setting of NRFS. Our hypothesis is that delivery of a live newborn with NRFS is associated with significant maternal morbidity. Design, participants, setting and methods: A large retrospective cohort study of 27,886 women who delivered between 1/2013-12/2016 at a single health system was studied. Inclusion criteria included: 1) women over the age of 18 at the time of admission; 2) singleton pregnancy; 3) live birth; and 4) gestational age greater than or equal to 37 weeks at time of admission...

OBJECTIVES: To better understand the extent of the ischemic trauma and the effects of surgical repair on the vaginal microcirculation in patients with obstetric vesicovaginal fistula (VVF). DESIGN: In this observational study, we evaluated the vaginal microvasculature surrounding VVF using handheld vital microscopy (HVM) before, during and two weeks after surgical VVF repair. PARTICIPANTS: Seventeen women undergoing VVF repair were included in this study...

Background Immune checkpoint immunotherapy (CPI) targeting PD1/PD-L1 has been shown to be an effective treatment for gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN). This includes those with multidrug resistance, ultra-high risk disease and ETT/PSTT subtypes that are inherently chemotherapy resistant, but there is also emerging evidence in low-risk disease. Objectives We set out to generate an overview of the current data supporting the use of CPI for GTN in both high risk and low risk disease and to consider future research goals and directions in order to implement CPI in current treatment guidelines...

OBJECTIVES: Guidelines advise promoting a healthy lifestyle among patients with fertility problems as the lifestyle of women and men proved to be associated with their fertility. Australian fertility nurses were shown to lack access to structured lifestyle modification programmes although they value healthy lifestyle promotion. This study aimed to examine whether gynecologists also value promoting a healthy lifestyle and whether structured lifestyle modification programmes are available in Belgian fertility clinics...

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the therapeutic value and treatment-related complications of adjuvant chemotherapy after concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) for locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC). DESIGN: The medical records of LACC patients who underwent CCRT were reviewed retrospectively. METHODS: A total of 1,138 patients with LACC who had been treated at our hospital between January 2013 and December 2017 were included in the study and classified into two groups: the CCRT group, comprising 726 patients who had received only CCRT, and the CCRT + ACT group, comprising 412 patients who had received three cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy after CCRT...
