Human papillomavirus (HPV) is associated with both benign and malignant disorders, such as genital warts and a variety of cancers, including oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas (OPSCCs). The current 9-valent HPV vaccine (Gardasil 9) protects against high-risk strains that have been shown to cause OPSCC, and widespread vaccination should reduce the rate of all HPV-associated cancers. HPV-related OPSCCs differ from non-HPV-related OPSCCs in their clinical presentations and responsiveness to treatment. To provide oral healthcare providers with a basis for effective com-munication with patients, this article will examine the evolution of the HPV vaccination schedule and the role of the HPV vaccine in the prevention of OPSCCs...

Treatment of peri-implant diseases focuses on reducing the bacterial load and consequent infection control. The use of local antimicrobials as an adjunct to mechanical therapy may result in a better outcome. Among antimicrobials, doxycycline stands out because of its local modulation of cytokines, microbial reduction, and clinical parameters in the treatment of periodontal diseases. The objective of this case report was to describe the combined application of mechanical debridement and bioresorbable doxycycline-loaded nanospheres for the treatment of peri-implantitis in a 71-year-old man...

This case report examines the atypical healing of an endodontic lesion without standard endodontic treatment, influenced by the patient's failure to attend treatment appointments. A 50-year-old woman with no notable medical history presented with a deep carious lesion on her mandibular right first molar, accompanied by localized pain. Citing forgetfulness as a reason, the patient missed her initially scheduled root canal treatment, necessitating an emergency intervention. The emergency treatment included access cavity preparation, irrigation with 5...

In addition to the proper selection of techniques, appropriate treatment sequencing and prioritization are prerequisites for successful periodontal and implant procedures. The aim of this study was to provide evidence-based time frames for various procedures pertaining to periodontal and implant treatment. A literature review was conducted to collect data on tissue healing; in areas in which data were lacking, the viewpoints of experienced clinicians were solicited to establish a consensus. This review reports recommended time frames for the healing processes associated with surgical crown-lengthening procedures (both functional and esthetic), fresh socket management, alveolar ridge management, soft tissue management, sinus floor augmentation, implant loading, and peri-implant defect management...

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the type of cancer that most frequently affects the oral cavity, mainly in men older than 50 years of age. Treatment for oral SCC often involves surgical excision of the affected margins, resulting in mutilation that affects the patient's quality of life. The objective of this case report is to describe the prosthetic treatment of a 56-year-old man who underwent total glossectomy, resulting in speech and swallowing difficulties. The proposed treatment was a tongue prosthesis retained by orthodontic clasps on the mandibular first molars...

The objective of this retrospective study was to assess the bone quality of healing mandibular fracture sites by measuring the Hounsfield units (HU) on computed tomographic (CT) images obtained presurgery and postsurgery in patients treated with rigid internal fixation (RIF). The HU values of healing fracture sites were compared to those of corresponding nonfractured (control) sites on the opposing side and cervical vertebrae sites in the same patients. In total, 31 patients with 45 mandibular fractures treated with RIF underwent presurgical and postsurgical CT examinations...

The present article reviews the literature regarding tetracycline staining of the dentition and its esthetic management. A total of 49 articles were identified in the initial search, and 22 articles met the eligibility criteria of this narrative literature review. Tetracycline staining results from its use in children between the ages of 6 months and 6 years, when tooth crowns are formed; the effects are dependent on the dosage, duration of treatment, stage of tooth mineralization, and activity of the mineralization process...

The majority of problematic conditions resulting from dental implant treatment are inflammatory in character, but certain isolated occurrences of primary oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) have been discovered in the area of implants. The goal of this study was to examine whether there is a link between dental implants and the development of OSCC in patients who have a history of a potentially malignant lesion (PML) or malignancy. Using the keywords "carcinoma" AND "dental implants," a search was conducted in the MEDLINE (PubMed), National Center for Biotechnology Information, and Google Scholar databases for case reports and case series in which OSCC was discovered as a primary cancer in the region of dental implants...

The purpose of this study was to compare various formulas for idealized proportions of the maxillary incisors to the actual dimensions of natural teeth. The Mondelli formula 1 (MF1), Mondelli formula 2 (MF2), Albers formula (AF), esthetic proportion (EP) for width and height of anterior teeth, and golden ratio (GR) were calculated for a total of 50 dental students (30 women and 20 men) who participated in the study. The following measurements were obtained directly in the participant's mouth with a digital caliper: the mesiodistal and incisogingival dimensions of the maxillary central incisors, lateral incisors, and canines; the intercanine distance; and the smile width...

Digital technology has been applied to the planning and manufacture of removable partial dentures (RPDs), reducing the complexity of RPD treatment as well as the number and duration of clinical and laboratory steps. However, there is a lack of information regarding digital planning and surveying for rotational path RPDs. This article presents a case report of a digital diagnostic wax-up and survey for a rotational path RPD performed with prosthetic design software. The virtual diagnostic closure tool made it possible during the case study stage to visualize the edentulous spaces and simulate the preparations necessary for the restoration of occlusal and esthetic harmony...

Implant failures have been associated with a diversity of etiologic processes, predominately arising from bone loss (peri-implantitis) due to inadequate maintenance of oral hygiene or excess luting agents. The aim of this article is to report a novel case of the apparent failure of a dental implant to undergo osseointegration in the presence of submerged pencil graphite. Practitioners are advised to carefully evaluate the clinical and radiographic site of a proposed implant for occult foreign substances. Embedded pencil graphite in the jawbone may promote a foreign body reaction and should be considered in the list of possible contributing factors to dental implant complications...
