The objective of this study was to synthesize and characterize epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG)-loaded/poly(D-L lactide-co-glycolide) acid (PLGA) microparticles, evaluate their effects on degree of conversion and release assay of adhesives, and subsequently to examine the resin-dentin bond strength of two EGCG formulations (free EGCG or loaded into PLGA microparticles) applied as a pretreatment or incorporated into an adhesive system. The formulations were prepared according to a PLGA:EGCG ratio of 16:1 using the spray-drying technique...

BACKGROUND: This case report describes the complete full-mouth treatment of hypocalcified amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) by chairside computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM). CASE SUMMARY: After several years of interrupted dental care, a 17-year-old female patient presented with pain and also esthetic and functional discomfort. With loss of enamel and dyschromia affecting all teeth, the diagnosis was hypocalcified AI. Affected tissues were eliminated, gingivectomy with laser was performed, an indented jig was used to record the centric relationship during optical impressions, and 28 full ceramic crowns were created by chairside CAD/CAM in four sessions...

The aim of this study was to evaluate the color stability of light-cured and dual-cured resin cements after artificial accelerated aging. Ten specimens (6-mm diameter and 2-mm thickness) for each of five resin cements were prepared: GC (dual-cured cement, GCem), Vb (light-cured cement, Variolink II only the base), Vbc (dual-cured cement, Variolink II base with catalyst), VV (light-cured cement, Variolink Veneer), and FR (flowable resin composite, light cured). The samples were polished and stored in an accelerated artificial aging machine for 308 hours (160 klx), with cycles of 120 minutes under light and 60 minutes in the dark...

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effect of combining camphorquinone (CQ) and diphenyl(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)phosphine oxide (TPO) on the depth of cure and polymerization shrinkage stress of bulk-fill composites. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Experimental bulk-fill composites were produced containing equal molar concentrations of either CQ-amine or CQ-amine/TPO. The degree of in-depth conversion through each millimeter of a 4-mm-thick bulk-fill increment was evaluated by Fourier transform near-infrared microspectroscopy using a central longitudinal cross section of the increment of each bulk-fill composite (n=3)...

INTRODUCTION: The objective of this study was to investigate the mechanical behavior of severely compromised endodontically treated molars restored by means of various types of composite buildups, full-contour lithium disilicate crowns (with or without post) or a lithium disilicate endocrown. METHODS AND MATERIALS: One hundred five sound molars were endodontically treated and randomly assigned to 1 control group (endodontic access cavity only) and 6 experimental groups (n=15): glass fiber reinforced composite (GFRC group), direct microhybrid composite (C group), direct microhybrid composite restoration with glass fiber post (CP group), composite buildup and full-contour lithium disilicate crown (LDS group), additional glass fiber post (P-LDS group), and endocrown (EC group)...

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the shrinkage stress, bonding interaction, and failure modes between different low-viscosity bulk fill resin composites and conventional resin composites produced by the same manufacturer or a high-viscosity bulk fill resin composite used to restore the occlusal layer in posterior teeth. METHODS & MATERIALS: Three low-viscosity bulk fill resin composites were associated with the conventional resin composites made by the same manufacturers or with a high-viscosity bulk fill resin composite, resulting in six groups (n=10)...

The present clinical case report describes the clinical steps of enamel microabrasion associated with dental bleaching to restore severely-pitted fluorosed teeth. The process of removing the fluorotic superficial stains started by using macroabrasion with a water-cooled fine tapered 3195 FF diamond bur. Rubber dam isolation of the operative field was used to remove the remaining enamel stains and superficial irregularities with the Opalustre microabrasive compound (6.6% hydrochloric acid associated with silicon carbide particles) followed by polishing using fluoridated paste and subsequent 2% neutral fluoride gel topical application...

The use of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) dentistry has triggered novel approaches to restoring teeth in ways that increase efficiency, improve esthetics, and conserve tooth structure. Endodontically treated mandibular incisors offer a challenging restorative opportunity due to the small amount of natural tooth structure and the required amount of reduction needed for restorative material. The case presented demonstrates how to leverage chairside CAD/CAM technology to restore a discolored and fractured endodontically treated mandibular incisor without the use of a post and core and completing the restoration in a single visit...

Two cases of complicated crown fracture of the maxillary incisors were restored using the fragment reattachment technique. Root canal treatment was performed, and the fractured fragment was bonded to the tooth structure using a dentin adhesive system and a flowable composite resin, followed by the insertion of a fiber post using dual-cured resin cement. Reattached fragments have shown reliable prognosis without inflammatory signs around bonded junctions after long-term follow-up.

Light activation is an important clinical step for achieving success in restorative procedures. This study evaluated the influence of beam profile from different light emission tip types of multiwave light-emitting diodes (LEDs) on the curing profile of resin-based composites. Experimental composites were produced containing either camphorquinone (CQ) or diphenyl(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)phosphine oxide (TPO) as a photoinitiator. Multiwave LEDs with either a bundle light guide tip (Bluephase G2, Ivoclar Vivadent) or a microlens tip (VALO Cordless, Ultradent) were characterized using a beam profiler...
