We present a 19-year-old woman, a case of Lemierre syndrome, who presented with fever, sore throat, and left shoulder pain. Imaging revealed a thrombus in the right internal jugular vein, multiple nodular shadows below both pleura with some cavitations, right lung necrotizing pneumonia, pyothorax, abscess in the infraspinatus muscle, and multiloculated fluid collections in the left hip joint. After inserting a chest tube and administering urokinase for the pyothorax, a bronchopleural fistula was suspected. The fistula was identified based on clinical symptoms and computed tomography scan findings...

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are monoclonal antibodies that induce the anti-tumor effects of T cells by targeting co-inhibitory immune checkpoints. The development of ICIs has revolutionized the clinical practice of oncology, leading to significant improvements in outcomes; therefore, ICIs are now standard care for various types of solid cancers. Immune-related adverse events, the unique toxicity profiles of ICIs, usually develop 4-12 weeks after initiation of ICI treatment; however, some cases can occur >3 months after cessation of ICI treatment...

We herein report a case of Behçet's disease in a 27-year-old female who suffered from generalized skin rashes for one week. After hospitalization, massive bloody stools accompanying hypovolemic shock occurred. Emergency abdominal computed tomography-angiography failed to detect the bleeding source. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy also demonstrated no definite bleeding points. Ileocolonoscopy showed multiple large and deep ulcers with some blood coating and mild oozing in the terminal ileum. We initially performed epinephrine injection and hemoclips for her intestinal bleeding...

Single parent adoption (SPA) is a relatively new construct worldwide and in India. The Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, has laid down criteria for adoption in general and SPA in particular, in conjunction with the Juvenile Justice Act (Care and Protection of Children), 2015. There is scant literature on this topic of SPA, more so in India, that looks into the various psychological nuances of SPA from a mental health professional's (MHP) perspective. This review paper aims to assess SPA from the perspective of a MHP that will focus on its various legal nuances as well as the psychological connotations attached to it...

BACKGROUND: Patient and public involvement in research was introduced a few decades ago. However, there is still a lack of knowledge of the degree of patient involvement, particularly in surgical research. The aim of this review was to characterize the use of patient/public involvement in contemporary surgical research and to describe how patients were involved, if they gained authorships, and which countries studies came from. METHODS: In this scoping review, original studies and reviews about surgery were included that had patient/public involvement regarding study planning, conducting the study, and/or revising the manuscript...

INTRODUCTION: Primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) treatment is characterized by long-duration therapy, prescription variability, and non-adherence. Patient awareness toward drug treatment is crucial to ensure adherence. The present study was planned to evaluate drug treatment awareness, patient-perceived drug adherence, and prescription patterns in POAG patients. METHODOLOGY: This was a cross-sectional, single-center, questionnaire-based study conducted in the ophthalmology out patient department of a tertiary care hospital from April 2020 to November 2021...

We report a 22-year-old homosexual man, a known case of HIV-1 infection but non-compliant to medications, who presented with a 5-month history of progressive painless non-pruritic coin-shaped skin lesions and recent gradual bilateral blurring of vision. His history divulged a primary syphilitic event 1 year prior to the present clinical manifestations. Investigation led to the diagnosis of neurosyphilis with ocular involvement with concurrent signs of secondary syphilis. Treatment with aqueous crystalline penicillin G, ophthalmic steroid and tropicamide drops, and topical emollients resulted in significant clinical improvement of ocular symptoms and skin lesions...

Porphyrias are a rare group of inborn errors of metabolism due to defects in the heme biosynthetic pathway. The biochemical hallmark is the overproduction of porphyrin precursors and porphyrin species. Afflicted patients present with a myriad of symptoms causing a diagnostic odyssey. Symptoms often overlap with those of common diseases and may be overlooked unless there is heightened clinical suspicion. We are reporting clinical features and diagnostic challenges in four pediatric patients having variegate porphyria, congenital erythropoietic porphyria, acute intermittent porphyria, and erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP), who presented with diverse multisystem manifestations...

Primary diffuse leptomeningeal primitive neuroectodermal tumor is a rare meningeal neoplasm which can masquerade as chronic meningitis. While the clinical presentation and radiological features may provide a clue to this condition, meningeal biopsy is essential to clinch the diagnosis. A high index of suspicion and a low threshold for re-evaluating cases of neuroinfection that do not respond to empirical therapy are essential in this scenario. We present the case of a nine year old boy who was initiated on antituberculous treatment for chronic meningitis with hydrocephalus...

Littoral cell angioma (LCA) is a rare benign tumor originating exclusively from the venous sinus lining cells of the splenic red pulp. These cells are unique in having a distinctive hybrid endothelial/histiocytic phenotype. Also, there are reports of the association of LCA with internal malignancies. We present a case report highlighting an unusual association of LCA with conventional renal cell carcinoma (RCC), masquerading as a metastatic lesion. Knowledge of such an association is necessary to avoid misdiagnosis and prevent potential overtreatment...
