BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Being bullied at school is a risk factor for a variety of negative consequences, including somatic problems. The purpose of this meta-analysis is to determine the association between peer victimization and headache in the school-age population. METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted in September 2013 to identify observational studies that examined the association between being bullied and headache in children and adolescents...

OBJECTIVE: This study's objective is to characterize the therapeutic effect of peripheral nerve blocks of the scalp for children and adolescents with post-traumatic headaches. BACKGROUND: Headaches are the most frequently reported persistent symptoms following a pediatric mild traumatic brain injury, may be challenging to treat, and can transform into debilitating chronic headaches. The beneficial use of peripheral nerve blocks of the scalp has been reported for adults with post-traumatic headaches...

BACKGROUND: Headaches occur commonly in all patients, including those who have brain tumors. It has been argued that there is a classic "brain tumor headache type" - defined by the International Headache Society as one that is localized, progressive, worse in the morning, aggravated by coughing or bending forward, develops in temporal and often spatial relation to the neoplasm, and resolves within 7 days of surgical removal or treatment with corticosteroids. METHODS: Using the search terms "headache and brain tumors," "intracranial neoplasms and headache," and "facial pain and brain tumors," we reviewed the literature from the past 20 years on brain tumor-associated headache and reflected upon the International Classification of Headache Disorders-3 (ICHD-3)...

Migraine is one of the most common neurological disorders. Despite its prevalence, the basic physiology of the molecules and mechanisms that contribute to migraine headache is still poorly understood, making the discovery of more effective treatments extremely difficult. The consistent presence of head-specific pain during migraine suggests an important role for activation of the peripheral nociceptors localized to the head. Accordingly, this review will cover the current understanding of the biological mechanisms leading to episodic activation and sensitization of the trigeminovascular pain pathway, focusing on recent advances regarding activation and modulation of ion channels...
