BACKGROUND: Psoriasis is an immune-mediated inflammatory skin disorder with a multifaceted pathogenesis. Immune dysregulation and immune cell dysfunction are among the mechanisms involved. TEA domain family member 4 (TEAD4) is suggested to play a role in psoriasis development. TEAD4 expression in keratinocytes may have a chemotactic effect and could disturb the function of FOXP3-positive T lymphocytes. This study aimed to evaluate the expressions of TEAD4 and FOXP3 in lesional, nonlesional psoriatic, and healthy skin and assess the clinical impact of their expression...

BACKGROUND: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a systemic disorder associated with various metabolic and inflammatory comorbidities. Although HS shares risk factors and pathogenic pathways with various respiratory conditions, few studies have explored the relationship between HS and respiratory disease. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional, case-control, population-based study that examined the United States National Inpatient Sample database from January 1, 2002, to December 31, 2012...

BACKGROUND: Generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP) is a rare, potentially life-threatening skin disease often requiring long-term therapy. We aimed to evaluate the use of Interleukin (IL)-17A inhibitors (secukinumab and ixekizumab) in GPP patients over 96 weeks. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed a case series of 18 patients with GPP who received secukinumab (n = 13) and ixekizumab (n = 5) therapy with a 96-week follow-up period. The primary effectiveness analysis included determining the percentage of patients who achieved ≥90% or 100% improvement in the Generalized Pustular Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (GPPASI) score...

Hair disorders, including central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia (CCCA), traction alopecia (TA), and acquired trichorrhexis nodosa (ATN), commonly occur in individuals with curly textured hair. Curly textured hair in individuals of African descent has unique properties and can present diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. CCCA has been linked to uterine leiomyoma and type 2 diabetes mellitus, as well as fibroproliferation. TA often presents with a fringe sign and can arise from high-tension hairstyles presumed to be protective...

Isolated cutaneous swelling can have varied etiologies. The clinical diagnosis is usually difficult, and a correct diagnosis always requires a pathological examination. Hereby, we report a case of linear keloidal morphea on the neck of an 18-year-old male who presented with an asymptomatic, firm lesion for 6 months. Histopathological examination was consistent with morphea. This case highlights the uncommon form of morphea in an unusual location, which can be misdiagnosed for numerous neoplastic conditions and for which simple histopathological evaluation can clinch the diagnosis...

Filler-induced alopecia is a transient alopecia characterized by localized hair loss and often attributed to vascular compromise following dermal filler injections in facial regions. Although an uncommon phenomenon, the rising incidence of filler-induced alopecia underscores the importance of understanding and managing this condition. We performed an extensive PubMed review of articles reporting filler-induced alopecia and summarizing the implicated filler types, injection areas, hair loss patterns, symptom onset, course progression, treatments, and prognosis...

Vitiligo is a chronic skin condition caused by an autoimmune response that results in the progressive loss of melanocytes and recent studies have suggested that Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKi) are emerging as a promising new treatment modality. Therefore, to assess and understand the extent of knowledge in the emerging field of JAKi use in vitiligo, a scoping review of the literature was undertaken. The reviewed articles explored a wide variety of JAKi administered either orally or topically for vitiligo. There were no injectable JAKi studied...

BACKGROUND: Tirbanibulin 1% ointment is approved for the field treatment of Olsen grade I actinic keratoses (AKs) of the face and scalp. METHODS: We performed a multicenter retrospective study involving 15 dermatologic units in Italy to investigate the efficacy and tolerability of tirbanibulin in a real-life setting. 250 patients were enrolled. Tirbanibulin, 1% ointment, was applied daily for five consecutive days. The efficacy of treatment was measured with modifications of the Actinic Keratosis Area and Severity Index (AKASI)...

BACKGROUND: Erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP) causes painful light sensitivity, limiting quality of life. Our objective was to develop and validate a wearable light exposure device and correlate measurements with light sensitivity in EPP to predict and prevent symptoms. METHODS: A wearable light dosimeter was developed to capture light doses of UVA, blue, and red wavelengths. A prospective observational pilot study was performed in which five EPP patients wore two light dosimeters for 3 weeks, one as a watch, and one as a shirt clip...
