Despite the advancement of medical therapies in the care of the preterm neonate, in the management of short bowel syndrome and the control of pediatric inflammatory bowel disease, the need to create fecal ostomies remains a common, advantageous treatment option for many medically complex children.

Tumors of the eye, orbit, and ocular adnexa can arise in the pediatric population. These entities can be both vision- and life-threatening and may be associated with systemic disease. Given their relative rarity, pediatricians must be aware of these conditions and understand what findings warrant immediate referral to an ophthalmologist for initiation of further testing. We aimed to review these conditions and highlight clinical features to promote awareness and expedite diagnosis. Tumors are subdivided into the following categories for review: anterior tumors of the eyelid and ocular surface, orbital tumors, and intraocular tumors...

Group A Streptococcus causes a variety of clinical manifestations, including pharyngitis and skin and soft tissue infections as well as more invasive disease. There are also multiple nonsuppurative complications of group A Streptococcus infection, including acute rheumatic fever and poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis. Pediatricians should be able to diagnose and treat the various presentations of the infection.

We describe congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) due to 21-hydroxylase deficiency, which is the most common primary adrenal insufficiency in children and adolescents. In this comprehensive review of CAH, we describe presentations at different life stages depending on disease severity. CAH is characterized by androgen excess secondary to impaired steroidogenesis in the adrenal glands. Diagnosis of CAH is most common during infancy with elevated 17-hydroxyprogesterone levels on the newborn screen in the United States...

REVIEW
Sarah A Coggins, Karen M Puopolo
Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is an important cause of neonatal sepsis in term and preterm infants. Because GBS colonizes human genitourinary and gastrointestinal tracts, a significant focus of neonatal GBS disease prevention is to interrupt vertical transmission of GBS from mother to infant during parturition. Routine antepartum GBS screening in pregnant women, as well as widespread use of intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis, have aided in overall reductions in neonatal GBS disease during the past 3 decades. However, neonatal GBS disease persists and may cause mortality and significant short- and long-term morbidity among survivors...
